Toothache: Grandmother’s Remedies To Relieve A Toothache

A toothache can be very disabling, and it is sometimes necessary to wait before consulting a dentist. Our grandmothers had the same problems, and they knew many tricks to reduce infection and reduce pain.

Green Clay

Green clay has many virtues, including detoxifying the skin and internal tissues. By sucking out the toxins, it allows the infected region to be relieved and reduces the intensity of the pain. You can use ready-to-use clay or prepare your mixture yourself, provided you do it with a wooden spatula that will not alter the clay.

  1. Mix a little water with three tablespoons of powdered clay.
  2. Adjust the doses to obtain a very homogeneous and smooth paste.
  3. Brush the outside of your cheek with your homemade preparation.
  4. Form to poultice about 1cm thick.
  5. Replace every 2 hours if pain persists.

Clove

Clove flower buds have always been used to treat dental pain. Cloves seduced our grandmothers, who left us this simple recipe thanks to their antiseptic and analgesic characteristics.

  1. Put three cloves in your mouth and moisten well with your saliva.
  2. Soften them, then slide them with your tongue over the tooth, causing the pain.
  3. Squeeze hard enough between your teeth to extract the juice.

This remedy is quite effective, but the taste of cloves being relatively strong, it is not suitable for everyone.

Ice Cubes

It is a reflex to have when you regularly suffer from toothaches. You can also opt for a bag of frozen peas instead of traditional ice cubes. If you use ice cubes, do not put them in direct contact with the skin, as it could burn it. Use a special rubber ice pack, freezer bag, or thin washcloth if you are very sensitive to cold.

Mouth Washes

Clean your mouth with mouth wash thoroughly to eliminate the bacteria causing your tooth problems.

Vinegar

It accelerates exchanges between cells, and vinegar also acts on blood circulation. These two actions combined allow for faster healing and less pain.

  1. Mix a teaspoon of vinegar with a glass of cold water.
  2. Put some of this mixture in your mouth and take care to soak the diseased tooth for a minute.
  3. Repeat until you have used all the products.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with clear water.

You should not use this trick if your teeth have high acid sensitivity.

Bicarbonate

Bicarbonate is a staple in closets and has many virtues, the main one being to kill bacteria. So you can make a mouthwash by adding one teaspoon of baking soda powder to a glass of water. Rinse your mouth between 1 and 3 times a day to clean the infected area and rid it of impurities thoroughly.

Saltwater

Added salt water is a good disinfectant, and it helps reduce pain in case of toothache. Use sea salt, which you pour into a glass of water, at the rate of a teaspoon, which you mix until dissolved. Circulate this preparation in your mouth for 1 minute, especially towards the painful area. Spit out the water with the impurities and renew until you have finished the glass.

Garlic

Garlic is a food recognized for its anti-inflammatory and anesthetic properties. It is also a proven anti-infective. Just crush two cloves of garlic to get a sort of thick paste, which you will apply to the painful area for a few minutes. You can renew the treatment, but if you feel irritated by the garlic, it is better to use another remedy.

Ginger

Ginger is highly valued for its fragrance in the kitchen, and it also has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiseptic properties. Thanks to its medicinal properties, it reduces pain while cleaning the treated area. To make your homemade paste, mix powdered ginger with a bit of water, then put it on the painful site. It would help if you had less pain reasonably quickly.

Essential Oils

Essential oils have many virtues, provided they are used wisely.

Lavender Officinalis

Lavender is a plant that has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and calming actions. It is often used to relax the muscles. It can also be used directly to soothe a painful tooth (3 or 4 drops). You can renew the application several times during the day.

Peppermint

Peppermint essential oil has disinfectant properties and puts the areas of the body to which it is applied to sleep. To put it in direct contact with the painful tooth, put two drops of peppermint essential oil on toothpaste and gently rub the tooth and the gum with this paste. You can repeat this treatment 2 to 3 times a day. Please note that peppermint essential oil is not recommended for children and pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Black Tea

Black tea bags contain tannins which are beneficial for tightening tissues and decreasing pain and inflammation. Take a black tea bag and steep it in boiling water. Then let it cool and squeeze it to wring it out. Put the wet tea bag in your mouth in contact with the painful tooth. Leave on for about 5 minutes. Renew if necessary. If the pain lasts for several days, you should consult a dentist because a toothache can cause more severe health problems.
